For more than a thousand years, the Immortal King has remained dormant while humanity has flourished. Yet not everyone believes humankind deserves the world it has inherited. To the Nakaya Clan, civilization has become corrupt, selfish, and beyond redemption. They intend to awaken the King so he can destroy the world and begin again.
To accomplish this, the Nakaya travel the globe hunting individuals with extraordinary power and stealing their tamashi—the spiritual energy contained within the soul. Every stolen soul brings them closer to activating an ancient relic known as the AbsXcess, a vessel powerful enough to resurrect the Immortal King.
At its heart, AbsXcess is a story about fanaticism and the danger of believing that one group has the right to decide whether humanity deserves to survive. It explores sacrifice, loyalty, power, and the terrible things people will justify when they believe they are creating a better world.

AbsXcess Issue #1 was created using Midjourney in 2022, during the earliest days of generative AI artwork. Production was completed shortly before Midjourney released Niji—its model designed specifically for anime-style imagery—on December 20, 2022. As a result, this first issue captures an important moment in the rapidly evolving history of AI-assisted comic creation.
